Dear [Your MP’s name],
I am writing to ask you to support the FreeMoveCreate campaign’s call for continued freedom of movement for creative professionals after Brexit.
The creative industries are worth £92bn a year for the British economy. Without an agreement which allows creatives to move freely with EU27 countries, many will lose work and some will be forced out of their profession altogether.
Creative professionals are frequently self-employed, regularly work at short notice, and often live on low incomes. The industry will suffer severely if they have to deal with the additional cost, bureaucracy and other problems many of them encounter when travelling outside the EU.
FreeMoveCreate campaigns to preserve freedom of movement for creative professionals. The campaign’s most recent report, published in July 2018, showed the devastating impact the end of freedom of movement could have on the music industry. Survey evidence in the report showed that over a third of musicians received half or more than half of their income from working in the EU. An end to freedom of movement without a good arrangement with the EU would therefore threaten the livelihoods of a large proportion of British musicians.
As your constituent, I am asking you to write to the Culture Secretary, Jeremy Wright, asking what he is doing to ensure creative professionals continue to enjoy freedom of movement with EU27 countries after Brexit. The Government must ensure that one of Britain’s most successful industries is protected when the UK leaves the EU.
Thank you for taking the time to read this letter. I hope you will be able to pass on my concerns to the Culture Secretary.
